I tried so hard not to gag as I helped my student clean her hearing aids' ear molds and tubes. The smell was awful. The wax gunk was hard to get out of the tiny tubes. Some of the wax got on my finger tip. I smiled trying not to show the kid that I was freaking out. I tried to contain myself.
Why don't the parents help clean the damn things?! I swear they are deaf to everything we tell them. How many times do I need to tell them that their hearing aids should be cleaned and maintained frequently. Don't get me started on how they never seem to know when to replace the tubes. How can they let the tubes get so hard, brown, crusty, and smelly? Poor kids. : (
